Following is an excerpt from my forthcoming book, “How To Buy A House: Pre-Owned and Foreclosures”.
Who Drives Around Anymore?
I was doing yard work one day when a car rolled up, and the people inside, two sweaty, red-faced retirees, waved me over. They wanted to know if I knew about any homes available for sale in the neighborhood.
I let them know I was a Realtor and no, there weren’t any homes for sale in the neighborhood. Mr. and Mrs. Sweatstain gave me a very snappish “We don’t want to work with a Realtor,” and drove off.
It was a shame, too, as there were some homes available in the adjacent neighborhood. But I didn’t volunteer that. They could just keep driving around.
When they drove away, I said to myself out loud, “Who drives around looking at signs anymore? What a waste of gas!”
So before you ever hit the streets, you need to get online for the “dream and educate yourself” stage. If for no other reason, it will save you fuel and time.
There are tons and tons of amazing homes to find online, homes that you would never ever find by just driving around.
So before you ever hit the streets, you need to get online for the “dream and educate yourself” stage. If for no other reason, it will save you gasoline and knock off hours spent in the car, with the added bonus of having your refrigerator handy for cold beverages and tasty snacks (and you’ll need that salt and sugar while wading through the bazillion real estate sites that will pop up when searching).
